Direct Support Professional
HopeTree Family Services has immediate openings for Full-Time Day and Part-Time As Needed (PRN) Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) in Virginia Beach, VA The DSP supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a Group Home setting.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a secure and responsive environment that enables each individual to maximize his/her physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual capabilities
- Provide guidance regarding social skills, transportation, health/personal hygiene, food preparation and housekeeping
- Supports each resident in meeting outcomes as noted in the Individual Support Plan (ISP)
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of and complies with Medical Policies and Procedures
- Supports residents in all medical needs and monitors each resident’s well-being
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of and complies with Human Rights rules and Regulations
- Protects resident’s rights and assists with understanding and asserting rights
- Demonstrates the ability to work with all staff to accomplish desired results
- Provides overnight safety and security of residents and work site as needed
- Administers medications according to instructions ordered by attending physicians
- Reports any suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation of the resident to the designated regulatory agency and HopeTree Human Rights Coordinator
- Completes Medication Disposal and Medication Error Reports with immediate supervisor
- Ability to exercise independent judgment with respect to carrying out duties of the job
- Documents hourly resident checks and maintains safety of the home
Requirements:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Experience or education in mental health, human services or related field is preferred
- Demonstrated leadership ability, emotional maturity and patience necessary to understand and accept the social, psychological and emotional needs of adults with developmental disabilities
- Good verbal, written and computer skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Have a valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record
- Must have the ability to represent HopeTree Family Services in a positive manner within the community
- Pre-employment background checks and drug testing
- TB testing/screening
